A recent car accident claimed the life of a nationally-acclaimed BMX cyclist. Kyle Bennett, a 33-year-old professional BMX cyclist was killed in a single-vehicle car accident in Conroe, Texas on Sunday morning.

Bennett was driving at a high rate of speed in order to assist his fiance after she claimed that her car was broken into. He lost control of his pick-up truck on the way to his fiance’s side, and his truck flipped over in a ditch. The car ultimately came to a stop after it crashed into the fence of a private residence. Emergency personnel arrived at the site of the rollover accident and pronounced the Olympian dead at the scene.

According to reports, Bennett was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the fatal crash. USA Cycling released a statement about the accident, stating that Bennett would be missed in the BMX community. Kyle Bennett has won three separate BMX championships, and was on the first Olympic BMX cycling team in 2008. Kyle is survived by his fiance, and his young daughter.
