Are you planning a fun-filled summer vacation? Thinking about bringing the RV to the Ozarks? It’s important to stay up to date on vehicle recalls – especially before taking a long trip. If you’re a recreational vehicle owner or renter, you don’t want to miss these recent RV recalls of 2023.

Forest River

The RV manufacturer Forest River has recalled some of their 2023 travel trailers. Certain 2023 West Della Terra and East to West Silver Lake travel trailers may have improperly installed furnaces. Incorrect furnace installation could potentially lead to a gas leak, caused by cold air inverting the cooktop flame. A gas leak is not only dangerous to inhale, but also a severe fire hazard.

Owner notification letters are expected to be sent on July 5th, 2023. Forest River’s phone number for these specific trailer recalls is 500-1644. You can also call their customer service line at 574-264-6664.

Jayco

Jayco is recalling 1,124 potentially affected RVs. The vehicles under recall are certain Ethos, Expanse, Swift Class B, and Solstice recreational vehicles with manufacturing dates between 2021-2024. These RVs are being recalled because they may be equipped with generators that have faulty hoses. Because the hose located between the inline fuel filter and the Injection Pump Module may not clamp tightly enough, it creates the risk of a gas leak.

If you own one of these recreational vehicles, contact the Jayco customer service line at 1-800-283-8267 to find out if your vehicle is one of the affected models, and what can be done.

Winnebago

Winnebago RV manufacturer is recalling about 6,536 potentially affected vehicles. The RVs under recall are certain vehicles under the below classifications.

  • Ekko 2022-2023
  • Travato 2020-2023
  • Solis 2021-2023

These motorhomes have the same issue as the Jayco recalled RVs mentioned above – the hose located between the inline fuel filter and the Injection Pump Module may not clamp tightly enough to prevent gas leaks. Winnebago owners can contact 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885 to reach their customer service line.

Whether you drive an RV, car, motorcycle, or truck, the best way to stay up to date on vehicle and vehicle part recalls is to use the NHTSA recall search tool linked here. All you need is your VIN number!

What to Do After an RV Accident

Even if your motorhome is in perfect working order, traffic accidents are always a risk. If you find yourself in an RV accident caused by another driver, take a deep breath and follow these steps.

  • Get out of the road as quickly and safely as possible to avoid a traffic pile-up. If you’re able to, turn on your hazard lights.
  • If your propane tanks are on (which is not recommended while driving) turn them off as soon as possible.
  • Check on your passengers. If there are severe injuries, do not attempt to move them as this could cause further injury. If everyone is alright, exit the vehicle and call 911.
  • (Side note: It is not safe to have passengers in the trailer while driving an RV.)
  • Exchange contact information with other involved drivers, and take pictures of the accident, and any personal injuries you obtained.
  • If paramedics were not needed at the scene of the accident, seek medical attention at the nearest emergency room as soon as you are able to leave. Even if you feel your injuries are “minor,” adrenaline or shock could be preventing you from detecting a serious injury. In addition, delaying getting treatment can hurt your personal injury claim later.
  • Contact a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to fight for the compensation you deserve.
