Wednesday evening, two people were killed in a tragic two-car accident in Gardner. According to police reports, the accident occurred at around 5:10 P.M. at the intersection of U.S. 56 and New Century Parkway.
The accident is still be investigated, but currently officials say the accident happened when a pickup truck traveling westbound and a car traveling eastbound collided. 41-year old Lisa Apperson was driving the car with her three children as passengers. 63-year old Milton Whaley was driving the truck involved in the accident.
13-year old Hannah Apperson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Whaley was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital with serious injuries and later passed away. Apperson was treated for unspecified injuries at Overland Park and her other two children were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
