A Kansas City man was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident last week while walking to work.

The 54-year-old man was walking to Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley where he worked to turn education material into usable formats for disabled students.

The accident occurred at Main and 31st Street, and area the man walked daily. The man suffered from low vision after having retinal detachment.

Officials believe that this is a case that shows that importance for audible signs at crosswalks. Officials in Kansas City have been working to install these devices and that particular intersection was scheduled to receive it in a few weeks.

Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim at this time.
