A recent report was released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and shows that underinflated car tires can increase the rate of an accident occurring by nearly three times.

A study looked in the car tire pressure before tire pressure monitoring systems were installed into vehicles from 2005 to 2007 and found that when car tire’s pressure was underinflated by more than 25 percent the recommended level, the vehicle was three times more likely to be involved in an accident.  When tire defects are combined with other adverse factors, this risk increases even more.
