A car accident that took place this week in Cape Girardeau, Missouri claimed the life of one man after his lost control of his vehicle while trying to flee from police. The 35-year-old Cape Girardeau man was killed on Tuesday just before 6 p.m. when police were called to a disturbance scene.
When Cape Girardeau Police arrived at a parking lot off of North Street, witnesses stated that there was a man there that had a gun and was making threatening remarks to another person. Police then saw the suspect leaving the parking lot and attempted to pull him over before he drove off. He began to drive off slowly and was obeying all traffic laws before turning a corner and speeding off.
As the police followed the car, it left the side of the roadway and struck a tree just after 5:41. When police arrived at the vehicle, they found a firearm that was similar to the one described by witnesses to the disturbances. The man was the only person in the vehicle at the time and he was rushed to the hospital by emergency crews, but was later pronounced dead.
