A train and truck accident in the rural Carl Junction area in Missouri occurred a few days before the Christmas holiday.
The accident occurred as a truck rig was hauling four ski boats and was struck by a freight train after the trailer bottomed out on the railroad and was unable to move. The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 171 and Route YY and the truck was heading eastbound when it was struck by the Kansas City Southern Railway Co. train.
The 61-year-old truck driver jumped from the cab of the truck before the impact. The driver was ticketed for failing to yield to the train. Boats were sent flying down the roadway as a result and a crew was working to extract the trailer from the lead engine of the train.
