Officials in Missouri are concerned with the increase in the number of fatal pedestrian accidents that have occurred recently.

The recent death of a 64-year-old crossing guard has brought this year’s total up to eight, two more than the whole year in 2010. Safety experts are concerned about this issue statewide.

There have been 21 fatal pedestrian accidents in Missouri for the first quarter of the year, compared to the same quarter of 2010 when there were nine. Officials have launched a safety program called “Be Safe. Be Seen,” in order to combat the issue and prevent pedestrian fatalities.
